SES to host international scholars in 2021 Webinar Series

In lieu of the canceled 10th SES Conference due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Social Ethics Society will host international scholars in a series of webinars next year. The speakers include Dr. Juichiro Tanabe (Kumamoto University), Dr. John Weckert (Charles Sturt University), Dr. Layne Hartsell (Chulalongkorn), Dr. Daniel Mishori (Tel Aviv University), and Ms. Asuna Yoshizawa (Osaka University). Local scholars and SES members have also been tapped as co-speakers, namely Dr. Al Quiloppe (NDMU), Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc (ADDU), Dr. Randy Tudy (CJC), Fr. Banny Pardillo (St. Francis Seminary), Dr. Roger Bayod (CJC), Dr. Godiva Eviota (MSU), and Mr. Migs Mansueto (Letran).  "Our intent is to bring top caliber international scholars to Mindanao," the SES said. The topics will cover various disciplines and themes. The online events are set for January, March, April, May, and July. The Notre Dame of Marbel University, through Dr. Quiloppe, will host the talk of Dr. Weckert.

SES Journal to expand reach

The Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy seeks to expand its reach, according to the Board of Directors of the Social Ethics Society, the organization's policy making body. With Dr. Randy Tudy and Dr. Roger Bayod joining the editorial board, the journal opens itself to the ASEAN region, especially those who are into development theory as well as public administration. While the journal was primarily conceived for philosophy and ethics, the BOD stressed that it is also cross-, inter-, and trans-, disciplinary. The intent is to encourage more contributions from international scholars, it adds. 

Dr. Bayod is the permanent representative of the SES in the Union of Societies and Associations of Philosophy in the Philippines

Dr. Rogelio Bayod, vice president of the Social Ethics Society, will be the permanent representative of the organization in the Union of Societies and Associations of Philosophy in the Philippines. This is the content of the memorandum appoved by Fr. Dexter Veloso, SES president. The authority to attend meetings in behalf of the SES is granted solely to Dr. Bayod. It is the same with any engagement with USAPP or any other organization, in which every decision will require prior approval of the SES Board.  

Menelito Mansueto is appointed to the Board of SES

Menelito Mansueto of Colegio de San Juan de Letran has been appointed by Fr. Dexter Veloso, SES president, upon the recommendation of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, chairman of the Board, as liaison officer for Luzon of the Social Ethics Society. Mr. Mansueto will likewise have a seat in the Board of Directors, together with Mr. Adrian Udtohan (Mindanao) and Mr. Gerry Arambala (Visayas). His term is from January 2021 to October 2023. Mr. Mansueto is taking a doctorate in communications at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He has taught philosophy at the University of Santo Thomas and at Far Eastern University - Diliman.

SES to hold two online lectures on World Logic Day

The Social Ethics Society will hold two lectures on World Logic Day, from 2 to 5pm, on the 14th of January 2021. Dr. Juichiro Tanabe of Kumamoto University and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo will headline the event. Dr. Tanabe will talk about "The logic of Peace in Oriental Philosophy," while Dr. Maboloc will discuss "Language, Logic and the Mind." Dr. Roger Bayod and Dr. Randy Tudy will be the webinar hosts. Fr. Dexter Veloso, president of the SES, reveals that the webinar is the first of many planned for 2021. The event will be held via zoom and fb live. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc presents papers in 10 international virtual conferences in 2020

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc has presented papers in 10 virtual international conferences this year, particularly in the conferences hosted by the Arizona-based American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN) in which he is a visiting professor, the Eubios Ethics Institute, and in the Universal Science Education Research Network (USERN) Congress. The research papers deal with his philosophical reflections on Covid-19 as well as the philosophy of technology, post-pandemic. "Our present situation has been a challenge but at the same time it is also an opportunity to engage with global scholars," he says.  Local academicians in Mindanao have also been active in their international engagements, which Dr. Maboloc says is important because "the universe is such a big place and there is always room for everyone to develop his or her potential." SES Board of Directors appoints Dr. Randy Tudy and Dr. Roger Bayod as new editors of SES Journal

Dr. Rogelio Bayod and Dr. Randy Tudy have been appointed as editors of the Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy. The Board of Directors of the Social Ethics Society, in a special meeting, has accepted the resignation of Fr. Urbano Pardillo Jr. and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, respectively. Both served as editors for five (5) years since the maiden issue of the journal. Dr. Peter Paul Elicor will remain as editor of the journal and will be joined by Dr. Bayod and Dr. Tudy, two internationally published researchers from Cor Jesu College who specialize in development research. Dr. Maboloc, who inhibited himself from the deliberations, explained after the meeting that the new editors will give a new perspective and fresh ideas to the journal, especially in terms of its original vision of empowering Mindanao-based researchers and scholars.
