Dr. Juichiro Tanabe to collaborate with SES on Peace and Conflict Studies

Dr. Juichiro Tanabe of Waseda University in Tokyo will collaborate with the Social Ethics Society on Peace and Conflict Studies. This was revealed by Prof. Menelito Mansueto, SES BOD, who is coordinating the online talk of Dr. Tanabe on May 27, 2023 via Zoom. It was announced that Dr. Tanabe is willing to do research with interested parties on the above topic. The SES in particular is very interested given the situation in Mindanao as the island aspires to attain lasting peace and equitable development.

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc gives talk on Prospects of Peace and Progress in Mindanao to 16 La Salle schools

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University gave a two-hour talk on the prospects of peace and progress in Mindanao to faculty members of 16 La Salle schools in the Philippines during their social justice formation training program held at the Stone Chapel Recreation Center in Tangub City. Dr. Maboloc provided the historical context to the Mindanao problem and explained the reasons for the social, economic and political exclusion of the island. He also mentioned the orthodoxy of the Christian and Muslim conflict as described by Patricio Abinales, as well and other factors, including its shadow economy, the dominance of local elites, and the reality of political dynasties.  Prof. Janice DC Penaflor asked about the type of democracy that is needed in the country, explaining the role of the middle-class as in the case of Singapore. Two SES stalwarts successfully defend dissertation at AUSN

Fr. Dexter Veloso of the Saint Francis Xavier College Seminary and Aldrin Quintero of the Notre Dame of Marbel University have successfully defended their doctoral dissertation in Bioethics, Sustainability and Global Public Health at the American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN) last May 14, 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Panel of Examiners was headed by Dr. Marlon Lofredo and included Dr. Darryl Macer and Dr. Suma Paharakaran, as members. Fr. Veloso's dissertation dealt with environmental ethics while Mr. Quintero's work was on disaster ethics. The American University of Sovereign Nations is based in Arizona, USA. 

Dr. Aldrin Quintero delivers paper on disaster ethics during the 22nd Asian Bioethics Conference

Dr. Aldrin Quintero of the Notre Dame of Marbel University delivered his paper on disaster ethics during the 22nd Asian Bioethics Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last May 17, 2023. The title of the presentation is "Disaster Bioethics: Towards a Holistic Approach, Adaptive, Resilient and Responsive Disaster Framework in the Philippines." Dr. Quintero's paper tackles the holistic approach to disaster management, including ways of adopting modern technology to respond to disasters more effectively. He argued how particular approaches can be integral to resiliency and sustainability. Dr. Quintero recently defended his doctoral dissertation at the American University of Sovereign Nations.  ."

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc wins Best Paper in the 22nd Asian Bioethics Conference

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc won the BEST PAPER Award in the recently concluded 22nd Asian Bioethics Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr. Maboloc's research is "Bioethics as the love of life and Post-Human Ethics after Covid-19." The award was announced by Dr. Ravi Moorthy, president of the Asian Bioethics Association.  The event, hosted by the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur, was attended by 62 researchers, global public health experts, and ethics scholars from 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. The conference tackled global public health security and the ethics of emerging technologies, among others.  Dr. Maboloc's research traced the changes from humanism to post-humanism. Medical technocracy, Edith Stein highlight 5th Politics and Culture Conference

The Social Ethics Society, in partnership with Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology and Cor Jesu College in Digos, successfully held the 5th Politics and Culture Conference, via Zoom, May 5 to 6, 2023. The virtual event started with the Keynote lecture of Dr. Daniel Mishori of Tel Aviv University. He discussed the Covid-19 Pandemic, medical technocracy, and vaccines. Four other Plenary lectures were delivered - Fr. Jose Conrado Estafia (Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary), Dr. Vida Mia Valverde (AdDU), PD Bruce Colao (DILG), and Dr. Raniel Reyes (UST). Discussions on the Covid-19 Pandemic, the concept of medical technocracy, and Edith Stein's thought on empathy highlighted the event.
