Philosophers and Scholars tackle Mindanao in National Conference

Scholars from the Philippines, Japan and Israel will gather this February to discuss Mindanao, considered as the country's last frontier. Prominent historians and social scientists have written about the exclusion of the island, which in the process resulted in the lack of progress for the longest time and a Moro rebellion that costs thousands of lives. It should be noted, however, that Mindanao is the only part of the country that never fell into the hands of its colonial rulers.  With this as background, philosophers and ethics professors, including development scholars, will be presenting their views and perspectives on the significance of the island in the country's history, culture and social realities. The Question of Justice to be launched in February

The Question of Justice in Contemporary Liberal Theory, published in November 2024, offers a comprehensive examination of modern liberalism and its critiques. The work delves into the perspectives of notable thinkers such as Robert Nozick, Iris Marion Young, Michael Sandel, Amartya Sen, Martha Nussbaum, and Thomas Pogge. The book will be launched on February 7, 2025 during the 15th Social Ethics Society Conference in Davao City.  The book comprises ten chapters that explore various dimensions of justice within the framework of contemporary liberal theory. The book critically analyzes the foundational principles of modern liberalism, addressing its strengths and limitations. He engages with libertarian critiques, communitarian perspectives, and the capabilities approach, providing a nuanced understanding of justice in today's complex social landscape. Bro. Noelvic Deloria, Keynote Speaker, 15th Social Ethics Society Conference

Bro. Noelvic Deloria is the keynote speaker in the 15th Social Ethics Society Conference in Davao City this coming February 6-7, 2025 at Mergrande Resort. Br. Noelvic H. Deloria, S.C. is presently the President of the Holy Cross of Davao College. He has held the position since June 2020. Being an advocate of positive OD (organizational development), Br. Noelvic was able to usher HCDC to a new era of being  Renewed, Restructured, Revitalized, and Ready for the Future.  Br. Noelvic H. Deloria, S.C. was born in Negros Oriental, but spent most of his formative years in Digos, Davao del Sur.  In 1980, he joined the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, and has since then dedicated his life serving as a religious brother.  Being a prominent face in the education sector, Br. Dr. Rogelio Bayod and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc invited to AI Conference in Bangkok

Dr. Rogelio Bayod (North Valley College) and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc (Ateneo de Davao University) have been invited to deliver papers in the 23rd Asian Bioethics Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bangkok, Thailand this coming March 24-29, 2025. The event will be held at Pathumwan Princess Hotel.  Dr. Bayod will talk about AI in health care education while Dr. Maboloc will discuss AI Ethics and Policy. The event is hosted by the Eubios Ethics Institute, Chulalongkorn University and the Asian Bioethics Association. The conference brings together global experts to discuss the legal, ethical and social implications of AI. 

Ethics in Contemporary Philippine Society Volume 2 released

Ethics in Contemporary Philippine Society Volume 2 has been released. The book is edited by Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc. Dr. Layne Hartsell provided the Introduction while the Foreword was written by Dr. Daniel Mishori. The new book discusses Pandemic Ethics, Poverty and Peace Studies, Global Ethics and Ecology. There are five chapters and twenty unique articles written by scholars, including Dr. Anton Heinrich Rennesland, Dr. Juichiro Tanabe, Dr. Asuna Yoshizawa, Dr. Ferdinand Mangibin, Dr. Raymond Pavo, among others.
