NDMU & SES host successful Ethics of Technology Lectures

The Notre Dame of Marbel University and the Social Ethics Society successfully hosted the Lectures on the Ethics of Technology last April 17, 2021, with philosopher John Weckert and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc as speakers. The event is part of the SES Webinar Series which is meant to bring global scholars into Mindanao through the online platform.

Dr. Weckert talked about technological optimism and what he believes is the alternative direction that societies must take. Not much attention has been paid to ethics, he said. Meanwhile, Dr. Maboloc discussed how large tech firms are taking over the role of censorship which he argues should solely belong to the state.

More than 180 participants joined the virtual event. Dr. Al Quillope of NDMU facilitated the hosting by NDMU. Dr. Juvy Reyes and Mr. Aldrin Quintero introduced the speakers, respectively. The next Webinar Series 4 will be held on May 13, 2021. It will feature Asuna Yoshizawa (Osaka), Menelito Mansueto Jr. (Letran) and Dr. Roger Bayod (Cor Jesu).
