Waseda University in Tokyo is known for its cutting-edge research and training in Peace and Conflict Studies. The inaugural SES-PUP International Ethics Conference at Waseda University will be held come September 5 & 6, 2025, at the Center for International Education, Waseda University. The theme of this international ethics conference is “Harmonizing the Ethics of Global Justice & Peacebuilding: Towards a Sustainable Planetary Future.”

The world is at the crosspoint of social, political, and cultural tensions. As the world moves closer into the next phase of the modern Industrial Revolution, we are witnessing many political disruptions, the threat of climatic change, and social upheavals that challenge our present ethical norms and moral perspectives. Today, nations are linked together by issues of globalization, social justice, and environmental sustainability. The moral questions need to be posed if humanity must find the right direction and determine a better future for the generations ahead. Liberal and post-liberal concepts of peace are at the forefront of these vicissitudes. We can mention the present and continuing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, including the peacebuilding efforts in Mindanao in the Philippines after many decades of conflict.
