Confirmed Plenary Speakers in the 12th SES Conference

Dr. Darryl Macer, President of the American University of Sovereign Nations, leads the list of the confirmed Plenary Speakers in the 12th Social Ethics Society Annual Conference this coming October 29-30, 2021. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc is Conference Chair. Dr. Julio Teehankee, Full Professor at De La Salle University, will also speak in the virtual event. The theme of the conference is "Democratic Inclusion and Transdisciplinarity." The talks are divided into three sections: Philosophy, Bioethics and Political Theory. Mr. Anton Heinrich Rennesland, a faculty at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Santo Tomas, will also give a plenary talk in the yearly gathering of scholars, teachers and graduate students in philosophy. Dr. Moises Torrentira of the University of Southeastern Philippines is the most read in RG in the area of development theory. Prof. Ian Clark Parcon is a Habermasian scholar at the Ateneo de Davao University who has published and presented papers internationally in the field of deliberative democracy. Prof. Menelito Mansueto of Colegio de San Juan de Letran is well-published in the area of Philippine politics and critical history. The Most Published Social Ethics Society (SES) members in Scopus are the following: 1. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc (Ateneo de Davao University) - 18 papers  2. Dr. Raymundo Pavo (University of the Philippines - Mindanao) - 10 papers 3. Dr. Jeffry Ocay (Eastern Visayas State University) - 8 papers 4. Dr. Peter Paul Elicor (Ateneo de Davao University) - 6 papers Scopus is the number one abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed journals globally.

Most Read and Most Cited SES Members in ResearchGate and Google Scholar

Two professors from Cor Jesu College were ranked number 1 and 3 among the members of the Social Ethics Society as the Most Read in ResearchGate. Dr. Randy Tudy has 51,973 reads and 26 citations while Dr. Rogelio Bayod has 39,302 and 60 citations respectively, as of July 6, 2021.  Meanwhile, Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University has 103 citations, which ranks number 1 and 45,218 reads, which ranks number 2, while Dr. Jeffry Ocay of the Eastern Visayas State University has 81 citations, which ranks 2nd and 17,373 reads, which ranks 4th, among the members of the SES.  The SES, which is based in Mindanao, is a duly registered professional organization of philosophy, social science, and development scholars, teachers, researchers and graduate students. The above citations report was based on the information gathered from ResearchGate and Google Scholar. 

Prof. Gerry Arambala, radical democracy scholar, to deliver talk on political dynasties

Prof. Gerry Arambala will talk about political dynasties in local and national politics on July 8, 2021 in a virtual forum sponsored by La Salle University Ozamiz. The chair of LSU's philosophy department is one of the radical democracy scholars in the country. He has published indexed papers and chapters on President Duterte.  Other philosophy professors from Mindanao who have published prominent papers on the subject matter of radical leadership include Dr. Rogelio Bayod and Prof. Benjiemen Labastin. SES members Prof. Menelito Mansueto of Letran and Mr. Ruben Balotol of VSU have also discussed the impact of the President on Philippine politics and governance.  All combined, together with the works of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, who pioneered the research on radical democracy in the Philippines with a grant awarded by the Ateneo de Davao University in 2017, more than 20 papers have since been published in indexed journals here and abroad. 

A call for social thinkers to rise above their eccentricity

  By Menelito Mansueto, Jr. I am deeply honored of being tasked to give this opening message for today’s webinar. Of course, we are very much honored to have our very distinguished speakers for this afternoon. I would like to share my own personal exposure to philosophical movements in the southern part of the Philippines sometime in the late 1990’s when I was a young seminarian of the Society of the Divine Word missionary congregation, popularly known worldwide and in the Philippines as the SVD Fathers, Brothers, and Conferrers. One of the perks of being an SVD conferrer at some point in my life was that at a very young age, I was able to personally mingle with some of the popular and giant names in Filipino Philosophy. Aside from listening to their much-valued lectures, we also got the chance to converse, sit down and dine with, pray with, party with, study with, and live with personalities like Bro. Romualdo Abulad and Fr. Leonardo Mercado. For instance, I experienced being tasked t
