SES to join federation of philosophical associations in PH

The Social Ethics Society, in a special meeting arranged after the 8th SES Conference, have agreed in principle to become part of a planned federation of philosophical associations in the Philippines which is being initiated by the PAP. The proposal includes harmonizing the schedule of conferences, the professionalization of the teaching of philosophy, joint trainings and workshops, among others. Mr. Aldrin Quintero, SES president, has been tasked to present the position of the SES.

ADDU graduate students attend SES Conference

Five environmental ethics students from the Ateneo de Davao University, who are taking their master's in philosophy, attended the recently concluded 8th Social Ethics Society Conference held at Punta Isla Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. Karl Gaspar, during his keynote talk, "The Quest for a Mindanawon Indigenous Philosophy," has challenged the young philosophy scholars in attendance to reflect on the culture, identity, and way of life of indigenous communities in Mindanao. With the pursuit of further knowledge in mind, the master's students who attended the event were Rogelio Bayod (Cor Jesu), Hilbert Narciso (UM Tagum), Ruben Davan (Gov. Generoso College of Arts), Bryan Tumlad (Ateneo de Davao University), and Fr. Ronelo Bentayao (QACS).

8th SES Conference successfully concluded

The 8th Social Ethics Society Conference held at Punta Isla Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, was recently concluded last October 27, 2018. The theme of the conference was "Indigenous Philosophy and Contemporary Challenges." Mr. Aldrin Quintero, SES president, delivered the opening message. The plenary speakers during the event were Bro. Karl Gaspar of the St. Alphonsus Theological Institute, Bro. Romualdo Abulad and Dr. Paolo Bolanos of the University of Santo Tomas, and Fr. Raymond Ambray of the Diocese of Surigao del Sur. Gaspar's keynote lecture was "The Quest for a Mindanawon Indigenous Philosophy." The concurrent speakers were from UP Diliman, UP Baguio, University of Santo Tomas, University of San Carlos, Visayas State University, Notre Dame University, La Salle Ozamis, Eastern Visayas State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the University of Mindanao, and Ateneo de Davao University, among others.
