SES to hold 2nd webinar on March 12

The Social Ethics Society will hold its 2nd webinar on March 12. The online event will feature Dr. Layne Hartsell of Chulalongkorn University and The Asia Foundation, Dr. Randy Tudy of Cor Jesu College and Dr. Al Quillope of Notre Dame of Marbel University. The Open Topic event will happen from 2pm to 5pm. It will be moderated by Dr. Roger Bayod.

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc delivers Keynote Speech in Rogationist Seminary - Manila St. Thomas Week

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University delivered the Keynote Address in the recently concluded St. Thomas Aquinas Week of the Rogationist Seminary College of Philosophy - Manila. He pointed to Albert Camus' The Plague as a philosophical way of looking into the pandemic while explaining as well the dimension of global justice when it comes to the access to the vaccines. Other speakers in the week-long virtual event, held from January 27 to 31, 2021, included Dr. JJ Joaquin of DLSU, Dr. Paolo Bolaños of UST, Dr. Jove Jim Aguas of UST, and Fr. Benjamin Redoble, RCJ.

Glio Joy Layos to present paper in the 14th International Public Health Conference

Ms. Glio Joy Layos, a faculty of philosophy at the Bukidnon State University and a graduate student at Ateneo de Davao University, will present a paper entitled "Global Ethics in the Time of the Covid 19 Pandemic" in the 14th International Public Health Conference (Virtual) on February 5-7, 2021, to be hosted by the American University of Sovereign Nations based in Arizona, USA. The paper, which is co-authored by Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, her professor at Ateneo and a visiting professor at AUSN, discusses the emergence of the coronavirus, citing novel research from Lancet, and argues for Covid-19 vaccination as a basic human right. The online conference will be attended by experts across the globe, including scholars in public health from the US, Japan, the EU, and Malaysia, among others. It will be moderated by Dr. Darryl Macer (PhD, Cambridge), president of AUSN.

SES releases dates for 2021 Virtual Lecture Series

Fr. Dexter Veloso, the president of the Social Ethics Society, has approved the schedules for the 2021 SES Webinar Lecture Series. The virtual events are intended to enrich ethical reflection on important problems and issues, according to Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, chairman of the SES Lecture Series. International experts as well as Filipino scholars will give online lectures. All events start at 2PM. Alvert Dalona to present paper in the 13th International Public Health Conference

  Alvert Dael Dalona, a philosophy faculty member at the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, will be presenting his paper entitled "Metaphysics in the Time of Covid-19" in the 13th International Public Health Conference hosted by the American University of Sovereign Nations, January 7, 2021. His paper calls for a metaphysical discourse on the pandemic and reflects on what was needed then that could have prevented the crisis. The conference will be joined by experts from other countries, including the US, France, New Zealand, and Japan, among others.

Dr. Sheldon Agaton to present paper in the 13th International Public Health Conference on how EVSU helped Burauen in food production during the Covid-19 pandemic

Dr. Sheldon Ives Agaton, associate professor at the Eastern Visayas State University, will be presenting a paper in the 13th International Public Health Conference (IPHA) hosted by the American University of Sovereign Nations, January 7, 2021. Dr. Agaton will be speaking about how EVSU, Burauen Campus, has helped the local population in food production during the Covid 19 pandemic. The abstract mentions how EVSU rose into the occasion to face the risks and challenges to empower the town where it is located and others as well in terms of food security. The conference will be joined by experts from other countries, including the US, France, New Zealand, and Japan, among others.

Dr. Godiva Eviota-Rivera to present paper on Online Education in the 13th International Public Health Conference

Dr. Godiva Eviota-Rivera, professor at Mindanao State University (MSU), will present a paper entitled "Higher Education in the Philippines during the Covid-19 Pandemic: Risks, Opportunities, and Policy Implications," in the 13th International Public Health Conference hosted by the American University of Sovereign Nations, January 7, 2021. The paper, co-written by Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, associate professor at Ateneo de Davao University and visiting professor at AUSN, tackles the issue of mental health and other problems concerning the digital transformation of learning. The research also discusses the fundamental problems of Philippine education. The authors will provide policy recommendations. The conference will be joined by experts from other countries, including the US, France, New Zealand, and Japan, among others.
