Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc is speaker at Human Gene Summit in Bangkok, Thailand

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc is one of the speakers in the International Summit on Human Gene Editing and Genetic Engineering and AUSN-Eubios Intensive Bioethics Training to be held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand this coming January 30 to February 2, 2019. The event will be attended by experts, bioethicists, and academicians who will discuss ethical issues pertaining to genetic medicine and its implication to social policy. Dr. Maboloc will be presenting his study on disability rights and particular developments in autism research. In his paper, distributive justice issues and the gaps in quality and advanced health care between the First and the Third World will be analyzed. Speakers during the summit include Dr. Darryl Macer of the Eubios Ethics Institute, Dr. Soraj Hongladarom of Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. John Weckert of Charles Stuart University.

Abstracts of Dr. Rogelio Bayod and Mr. Gerry Arambala accepted in Bangkok Human Gene Summit

The papers of Dr. Rogelio Bayod of Cor Jesu College and Mr. Gerry Arambala of La Salle Ozamis have been accepted for the "International Summit on Human Gene Editing and Genetic Engineering and Intensive Bioethics Training" to be held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand this coming January 30 to February 2, 2019. The paper of Dr. Bayod is "Developing Indigenous Ethics: On Recognition and Social Justice" while the presentation of Mr. Arambala is "Genetic Therapy and Social Justice: A Reflection on Amartya Sen's Capability Approach." Dr. Bayod and Mr. Arambala are members of the Social Ethics Society. The summit will be attended by experts, bioethicists, and scientists from around the world.

SES to join federation of philosophical associations in PH

The Social Ethics Society, in a special meeting arranged after the 8th SES Conference, have agreed in principle to become part of a planned federation of philosophical associations in the Philippines which is being initiated by the PAP. The proposal includes harmonizing the schedule of conferences, the professionalization of the teaching of philosophy, joint trainings and workshops, among others. Mr. Aldrin Quintero, SES president, has been tasked to present the position of the SES.

ADDU graduate students attend SES Conference

Five environmental ethics students from the Ateneo de Davao University, who are taking their master's in philosophy, attended the recently concluded 8th Social Ethics Society Conference held at Punta Isla Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. Karl Gaspar, during his keynote talk, "The Quest for a Mindanawon Indigenous Philosophy," has challenged the young philosophy scholars in attendance to reflect on the culture, identity, and way of life of indigenous communities in Mindanao. With the pursuit of further knowledge in mind, the master's students who attended the event were Rogelio Bayod (Cor Jesu), Hilbert Narciso (UM Tagum), Ruben Davan (Gov. Generoso College of Arts), Bryan Tumlad (Ateneo de Davao University), and Fr. Ronelo Bentayao (QACS).

8th SES Conference successfully concluded

The 8th Social Ethics Society Conference held at Punta Isla Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, was recently concluded last October 27, 2018. The theme of the conference was "Indigenous Philosophy and Contemporary Challenges." Mr. Aldrin Quintero, SES president, delivered the opening message. The plenary speakers during the event were Bro. Karl Gaspar of the St. Alphonsus Theological Institute, Bro. Romualdo Abulad and Dr. Paolo Bolanos of the University of Santo Tomas, and Fr. Raymond Ambray of the Diocese of Surigao del Sur. Gaspar's keynote lecture was "The Quest for a Mindanawon Indigenous Philosophy." The concurrent speakers were from UP Diliman, UP Baguio, University of Santo Tomas, University of San Carlos, Visayas State University, Notre Dame University, La Salle Ozamis, Eastern Visayas State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the University of Mindanao, and Ateneo de Davao University, among others. Dr. Göran Collste, professor emeritus at Linköping University in Sweden, and Dr. Darryl Macer, president of the American University of Sovereign Nations in Arizona, USA, lead the international advisory board of the Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy. Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte: Dr. Maboloc to present his research paper in Japan

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of the Philosophy Department of the Ateneo de Davao University will present his research on "Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte" at Nagoya University's Graduate School for International Development this coming September 29, 2018. The research, funded by the University Research Council of the Ateneo de Davao University, examines the progressive approach of President Rodrigo Duterte. Maboloc's research project has produced two essays, "Situating the Mindanao Agenda in the Radical Politics of President Duterte," published in  IQRA: Journal of the Al Qalam Institute  and "The Radical Politics of Nation-States: The Case of President Duterte," published in the  Journal of ASEAN Studies . SES Journal to publish special issue on the Duterte Presidency

The Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy will publish a special issue on the Duterte Presidency. The editor for this special issue is Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc. CHED endorses the 8th SES Conference in Lake Sebu

The Commission on Higher Education has endorsed the 8th Social Ethics Society Conference in Lake Sebu this coming October 25-27, 2018. The theme for this year's event is "Indigenous Perspectives and Contemporary Challenges." The anthropologist Karl Gaspar will be the keynote speaker.

8th SES Conference to be held in Lake Sebu

The 8th Social Ethics Society Conference will be held this coming October 25-27, 2018 at Punta Resort, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. Notre Dame of Marbel University will be the host of this year's regional gathering of philosophy teachers, scholars, and researchers. The theme for the conference is Indigenous Perspectives and Contemporary Challenges. Bro. Karl Gaspar will be the Keynote Speaker for his year's event. Mr. Aldrin Quintero is the conference chair while Mr. Wrendolf Juntilla will be in charge of the secretariat. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc will head the scientific committee.

Ateneo awards Radical Democracy research grant to Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc

The University Research Council of the Ateneo de Davao University has awarded Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc a research grant on a project entitled "Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte." The research will be undertaken from November 2017 until July 2018. Dr. Maboloc will hold a dialogue with leading philosophy professors in political ethics, social anthropology, and development theory to deepen his reflections. The panel includes Dr. Zosimo Lee of the University of the Philippines, Bro. Karl Gaspar of St. Alphonsus Theological Mission Institute, Dr. Jeffry Ocay of Silliman University, Dr. Ruby Suazo of the University of San Çarlos, Dr. Andi Villa of the Ateneo de Davao University, and Dr. Sherlito Sable of the University of Southeastern Philippines. Two Focus Group Discussions will be held. Ms. Kathleen Pastrana and Mr. Ismael Magadan Jr. will serve as Maboloc's research assistants.
