Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte: Dr. Maboloc to present his research paper in Japan

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of the Philosophy Department of the Ateneo de Davao University will present his research on "Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte" at Nagoya University's Graduate School for International Development this coming September 29, 2018. The research, funded by the University Research Council of the Ateneo de Davao University, examines the progressive approach of President Rodrigo Duterte.


Maboloc's research project has produced two essays, "Situating the Mindanao Agenda in the Radical Politics of President Duterte," published in IQRA: Journal of the Al Qalam Institute and "The Radical Politics of Nation-States: The Case of President Duterte," published in the Journal of ASEAN Studies. Dr. Wataru Kusaka is organizing the conference-workshop which also aims to develop future research collaboration among scholars in Japan and the Philippines. 


Dr. Maboloc will be accompanied by his student in the graduate program at ADDU, Dr. Rogelio Bayod of Cor Jesu College, who will be presenting his research paper on Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines. Other presentors include Dr. Kusaka and Azuna Yoshizawa of Kyoto University on Intermarriage and Balik-Islam, Mart Kurasmaa of Nagoya University on the State of Capital in the Bangsamoro, and Ryn Nhick Yambao of Nagoya University on the Issue of Change or Continuity in Economic Institutions.

Christopher Ryan Maboloc: An Intellectual Biography

By Menelito Mansueto (MSU-IIT)  Christopher Ryan Maboloc is a Davao-based Filipino scholar known for his work in Social and Political Philosophy, Bioethics, Philippine Democracy, and the Philosophy of Technology. He is an Associate Professor at Ateneo de Davao University and a Visiting Professor at Silliman University. His body of work often engages with topics of social justice, structural inequality, and political ethics, particularly in the context of the Philippines.
