Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc wins 2020 PAP Public Intellectual Prize

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc has been awarded the prestigious 2020 Public Intellectual Prize by the Philosophical Association of the Philippines (PAP). The Board of Judges deemed that the opinion pieces of Dr. Maboloc "exemplify how philosophical thinking could be done in the public sphere." The PAP will confer the award on November 21, 2020 during its annual General Assembly via Zoom. Dr. Maboloc has contributed 120 social and political commentaries to the Philippine Daily Inquirer from 2014 to 2019. He is an associate professor at the Ateneo de Davao University and a visiting professor for Global Justice at the American University of Sovereign Nations. Dr. Maboloc has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including a dozen plus indexed by Scopus. The writings of the scholar deal with radical politics, disability rights, and the philosophy of technology. Fr. Veloso and SES hint at future plans

Founded in 2010, the Social Ethics Society has brought the best scholars to Mindanao, including Daniel Mishori, Wataru Kusaka, and Zosimo Lee. One man made all these things possible - Fr. Dexter Veloso, SES president. The SES is the first and only philosophical association in Mindanao registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission. Fr. Veloso has a no nonsense type of charismatic leadership and has in fact elevated the SES step by step into internationalization. Through his initiative, SES members have joined conferences in Japan and Thailand. He has also secured funding for the SES Journal of Applied Philosophy. "Fr. Dex makes things possible for us," says Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, who founded the SES with the late Dr. Romy Bautista. "Young teachers like him and we see him as our cornerstone," he added.
