Dr. Daniel Mishori is Plenary Speaker in the 14th SES Conference

Dr. Daniel Mishori of Tel Aviv University is one of the Plenary Speakers in the 14th Social Ethics Society Conference on February 1-2, 2024 at Cor Jesu College in Digos City. Dr. Mishori is an expert in systems thinking and medical ethics, including the ethics of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Dr. Mishori has been to Davao del Sur a few years ago visiting its indigenous communities. The conference is expected to draw philosophy and ethics teachers from different regions. Dr. Lemuel Sayao is Plenary Speaker in the 14th SES Conference

Dr. Lemuel Sayao, a faculty of Cor Jesu College, is one of the Plenary Speakers in the 14th Social Ethics Society Conference this coming February 1-2, 2024 to be held at Cor Jesu College in Digos City. Dr. Sayon has a degree in Science Education from the Notre Dame of Marbel University. The theme of the conference is "Peace and Conflict Studies, Emerging Technologies and Ecological Sustainability." Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc is Plenary Speaker in the 14th SES Conference

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University will speak in the plenary of the 14th SES Conference in Cor Jesu College this coming February 1-2, 2024. His paper is "Iris Marion Young and the Politics of Difference." The Conference is jointly sponsored by Cor Jesu College and the Social Ethics Society, with the support from the Local Government of Digos City. The convenor, Dr. Rogelio Bayod of Cor Jesu, has been instrumental in bringing local and international scholars to Digos in the past five years since joining the SES. Dr. Juichiro Tanabe is Plenary Speaker in the 14th SES Conference

Dr. Juichiro Tanabe of Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan is one of the Plenary Speakers in the 14th Social Ethics Society Conference this coming February 1-2, 2024 at Cor Jesu College in Digos City. Dr. Tanabe finished his doctorate at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. He is an expert in Peace and Conflict Studies. Dr. Ian Clark Parcon is Plenary Speaker in the 14th SES Conference

Dr. Ian Clark Parcon, an associate professor at Ateneo de Davao University, and editor of the Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy, is one of the Plenary Speakers in the 14th Social Ethics Society Conference this coming February 1-2, 2024 at Cor Jesu College in Digos City. Dr. Parcon's research interests are Environmental Ethics and Deliberative Democracy. The conference is expected to draw philosophy and ethics teachers from different regions. Dr. Anton Rennesland is Plenary Speaker in the 14th SES Conference

Dr. Anton Heinrich Rennesland, a faculty member of the Philosophy Department of the University of Santo Tomas, is one of the Plenary Speakers in the 14th Social Ethics Society Conference this coming February 1-2, 2024 at Cor Jesu College in Digos City. Dr. Rennesland is doing a paper that cuts across a return to nature and indigenous practices. The theme of the event is "Peace and Conflict Studies, Emerging Technologies, & Ecological Sustainability." 14th SES Conference FINAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is extended up to January 15, 2024. Please send your abstract to Dr. Rogelio Bayod, the Convenor, at roger.bayod@gmail.com. Papers that deal with environmental ethics, the ethics of technology, ecological sustainability, peace and conflict studies, democracy and human development, politics and governance, and general philosophy are welcome.  Your abstract must not be more than 300 words. Paper presentations will be for 30 minutes. The presentor must prepare his or her PowerPoint slides. Individual authors and co-author are allowed. The Scientific Committee will select the papers for oral presentation. The authors will be informed through email not later than January 17, 2024.  The 14th Annual SES Conference, to be held this coming February 1-2, 2024, is hosted by Cor Jesu College. Dr. Juichiro Tanabe is new SES Journal editor

Dr. Juichiro Tanabe (Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan), is the new Area Editor for General Philosophy and Applied Ethics of the Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy. A well published scholar in peace and conflict studies, Dr. Tanabe finished his doctorate at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. The SES likewise expressed its gratitude to Dr. Peter Paul Elicor, who held the position from 2015-2023. CRB Maboloc to deliver Horace B. Silliman Memorial Lecture at Silliman University

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc will deliver the Horace B. Silliman Memorial Lecture at Silliman University in March next year. The lecture is The Radical Politics of Rodrigo Duterte and the Radical Democracy of Chantal Mouffe. He will also give three lectures on John Rawls come March 14 and 15, 2024 to the Philosophy Department of Silliman as a Visiting Lecturer in the Second Semester. As stated by Dr. Wataru Kusaka in the Foreword to Maboloc's book, Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte, the author's arguments are controversial. The same is affirmed in the Book Review written by Symel De Guzman-Daulat of UP Diliman, published in Ateneo de Manila University's BUDHI Journal. The work of Maboloc has attracted top scholars, mostly critical, including Dr. Paolo Bolanos and Fr. Raymond Festin. 

BISU Conference successful

The Bohol Island State University Conference on Technological Innovation in Education, Gender and Ecological Sustainability was successfully held last December 9, 2023 at Sayas Restaurant in Tagbilaran City. Dr. Juichiro Tanabe of Waseda University delivered the Keynote address. He discussed the importance of holistic peace. Dr. Godiva Eviota-Rivera of MSU Marawi talked about peace education while Dr. Noel Parinas of UPLB explained the meaning of inclusivity. Dr. Ruby Suazo of the University of San Carlos talked about technological innovation and the ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence while Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo gave a lecture on the future of public health. Prof. Francis Jeus Ibanez was the convenor of the event. The conference was attended by 115 participants. He was assisted by Prof. Marc Olaguir, Prof. Roberto Lumaad, and Prof. Michael Orimaco, his colleagues in philosophy at BISU.

The Keynote Speaker is Dr. John Weckert of Charles Sturt University in Australia. Statement of the Social Ethics Society on the MSU Marawi Bombing

The Social Ethics Society stands in solidarity with our colleagues in the Philosophy Department of MSU Marawi and the whole university community. Terror and violence have no place in the civilized world. We condemn this cowardly act. The SES will continue to work with our colleagues in MSU Marawi in the pursuit of a sustainable and lasting peace in Mindanao. We will not be deterred by terrorist. Pray for MSU Marawi. Pray for Mindanao.
