CRB Maboloc to speak in International Conference on Educational Sciences

  Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc has been invited to speak in the Plenary of the International Conference on Research in the Educational Sciences, to be held on May 29-31, 2022. The virtual event is hosted by the Mindanao State University in General Santos City and is convened by Ms. Cathy Mae Toquero, an outstanding scholar in the field of educational research.  Dr. Maboloc will deliver a paper on the concept of critical pedagogy. He has published several articles on the topic, including "Critical Pedagogy in the New Normal," (Columbia) "Deep Thinking or Resistance: On Finding a Middle Ground between Freire's Critical Pedagogy and Dewey's Pragmatism," (Springer) and "A Strategy for School Reopening in the Philippines," (Oxford).  Other international experts will speak as well in the conference. Call for Papers: Philippine Politics and Culture Conference 4

The Social Ethics Society, in coordination with Cor Jesu College, will hold the 4th International Conference on Philippine Politics and Culture on April 22-23, 2022 with the theme "Radical Politics and the Future of Philippine Democracy." Dr. Jeffry Ocay, the country's most prominent critical theorist from the South, will give the Keynote Lecture during the event. Other distinguished speakers in the virtual conference include Dr. Juichiro Tanabe (Waseda University), Dr. Rey Montesclaros (MSU-IIT), Prof. Ian Clark Parcon (AdDU), Ms. Asuna Yoshizawa (Kyoto University) and PD Bruce Colao (DILG). Papers related to Philippine Politics and Governance, Education and Poverty, Ethics and Difference Politics, and Critical Theory, are welcome. Dr. Romulo Bautista, co-founder of the Social Ethics Society

  After returning from his studies in Europe, Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc met the man who would help many philosophy academics in Mindanao become part of an established organization that has truly taken root in the island - Dr. Romulo Bautista. Dr. Bautista did his doctorate on Karl Marx at the University of Madrid in Spain. "He was a very humble man. We spent many afternoons at a bakery shop along Claveria, just beside Ateneo, to talk about philosophy and politics," says Dr. Maboloc. The two professors would introduce the concept of bayanikrasya to graduate philosophy students in Ateneo de Davao University. They have taught more than half of the Philosophy faculty of the biggest state universities in Mindanao, from MSU in Ilgan to USM in North Cotabato.
