SES in 2021 - A Celebration of Meaningful Undertakings

  The Social Ethics Society ended 2021 with a meaningful gathering at Balai Torrentira in Davao City, celebrating the successful events organised by the association during the year. The year-round activities include the World Logic Day, the 2021 Webinar Series, the SES - USEP Writeshop, the 12th SES Conference, and the Philippine Democracy Virtual Forum. The SES is proud to have invited global scholars to its undertakings, including Dr. Juichiro Tanabe, Dr. John Weckert, Dr. Layne Hartsell, Dr. Daniel Mishori, and Ms, Asuna Yoshizawa. Dr. Darryl Macer, Dr. Julio Teehankee, and Mr. Anton Heinrich Rennesland were the plenary speakers for the 12th edition of the annual conference. The association of Philosophy teachers in Mindanao also recognised its Most Published and Most Cited members, including upcoming scholars Gerry Arambala and Migs Mansueto. SES organizes Donation Drive for the victims of Super Typhoon Odette

The Social Ethics Society has organized a Donation Drive for the victims of Typhoon Odette. The SuperTyphoon brought massive destruction on December 16, 2021. People in the Visayas and Northern Mindanao need basic necessities like water, food, shelter, and clothing. Due to the big logistics problem at this time, the SES will send cash donations through charity channels on the ground. The members of the SES and other individuals can also send their donation via Land Bank. The situation in the hard-hit areas remain dire. Thousands are still without electricity or drinking water. Menelito Mansueto Jr.: The dynamic young scholar from Bohol

One of the finest young scholars to emerge in the midst of a turbulent politics in Philippine Society comes from Bohol. A student of the late Dr. Eddie Babor, in whose time as leader and president of PHAVISMINDA, philosophy became an important fixture outside of the capital, Mr. Menelito Mansueto Jr. is a full-time faculty member at the Philosophy Department of Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology. Mansueto has written extensively on Philippine Democracy and Mass Media, the Value System in Philippine History, a chapter in the book Ethics in Contemporary Philippine Society, and President Rodrigo Duterte's radical approach to politics. He has taught at the University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University - Diliman, and the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila. He is a member of the Board of the Social Ethics Society. 

Dr. Moises Torrentira Jr.: SES Most Read development scholar

  Dr. Moises Torrentira Jr., associate professor at the University of Southeastern Philippines, is the Social Ethics Society's Most Read development scholar in ResearchGate, with 169,571 reads and the fourth Most Cited member of the SES. A young and dynamic leader, Dr. Torrentira also has a degree in Urban Planning and is the president of the MIT Institute in Davao City, a school that specializes in urban planning and development. 

Dr. Rogelio Bayod: The academic scholar as a development worker

  One of the the oldest myths when it comes to academia is to think that the scholar is bereft of meaningful and practical contributions to human development. The idea is to find the balance in order to succeed as a scholar and a development worker. Dr. Rogelio Bayod, who is a Visiting Professor at the American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN) and professor of ethics at Cor Jesu College, is a case in point. Dr. Bayod has been immersed in conflict communities and has learnt about their way of life. In the process  he has been giving advice and training to local government units in Davao del Sur on leadership and development planning. He leads the biggest organization of campus advisers in the Philippines. At the same time, he is the third Most Cited Social Ethics Society (SES) member in Google Scholar and the third Most Read in ResearchGate.  "Poverty is not about the lack of resources. It is rooted in structural injustices. To help the poor, you have to live with them,"

Dr. Randy Tudy is Most Read SES member in ResearchGate

Dr. Randy Tudy, formerly of Cor Jesu College and now with the Commission on Higher Education, is the Most Read member of the Social Ethics Society in ResearchGate with 57,285 reads. He is followed by Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University with 55,767 reads and Dr. Rogelio Bayod of Cor Jesu College with 54,657.  Meanwhile, Dr. Maboloc is the Most Cited SES member in Google Scholar with 125 citations. He is followed by Dr. Jeffry Ocay of the Eastern Visayas State University with 96 citations and Dr. Bayod with 76 citations. "Citations mean that we have contributed to human knowledge," says Prof. Gerry Arambala, chair of Philosophy at La Salle University. 

Jubail Wee Pasia to speak in International Climate Change Webinar

  Engr. Jubail Wee Pasia of Manila Water and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University have been invited as speakers in the Youth Climate Series, an international Webinar hosted by The Asia Foundation. Pasia will discuss community empowerment towards climate resiliency this December 11, 2021 while Maboloc will speak about climate change education on January 8, 2022.  Dr. Layne Hartsell, research professor at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, says that the theme of the event is "The 3Es of sustainability - Economy, Ecology and Equity." The webinar will be participated in by students and youth climate activists from Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. The Asia Foundation is based in Washington D.C., USA.
