Dr. Maboloc to present radical politics study in UST Conference

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc will present his lecture, "The radicalization of politics in the Philippines" in the Graduate School Conference of the Department of Philosophy of the University of Santo Tomas, 28 April 2021. The theme of the virtual event is Christianity and the Philippine Intellectual Landscape. The paper looks into the roots of antagonism and conflict in Philippine colonial history. It is also an attempt to convey the message that Karl Gaspar's work is a radical response to the exclusion of the Lumads. The study juxtaposes the politics of President Duterte and the theology of struggle of the eminent anthropologist from Mindanao.

SES Board concludes Planning Session

The Social Ethics Society has concluded its Strategic Planning Session held at Club Samal Resort, 26-27 March 2021. The organization will draft a revised Vision and Mission to expand the reach of the SES. It will also seek to adopt development theory as part of the scope of the group's mission. This is in line with the paradigm of thinking toward the future while deepening the ethical approach to development. The Board has approved the new editorial policies of the SES Journal as presented by Dr. Roger Bayod and Dr. Randy Tudy. Other plans include international engagements, the holding of SES caravans, and promoting philosophical research through future webinars. Mr. Arnel Morte to present paper in International Public Health Conference

  Mr. Arnel Morte, a philosophy faculty at the Central Mindanao University, will be presenting his paper "Technology as Value-laden and Teen-Age Pregnancy during the Pandemic" in the 15th International Public Health Conference (virtual) hosted by the American University of Sovereign Nations from March 5 to 7, 2021. The event gathers local and international scholars, including graduate students, to discuss issues related to the global health emergency crisis.

SES to hold strategic planning activity

The Social Ethics Society (SES) will hold a Strategic Planning Session this month. The officers led by Fr. Dexter Veloso have a fresh three-year mandate. "Mindanao's first and only philosophical association will be forward-looking in terms of its role," the SES statement says. "The pandemic has brought big challenges but at the same time, the organization has also taken advantage of the available online technology to reach out to more students and teachers through its webinars," the statement adds. The participants to the hybrid in-person and online activity are Fr. Veloso (President), Dr. Roger Bayod (VP), Dr. Moises Torrentira (Sec), Fr. Banny Pardillo (Treas), Dr. Randy Tudy (Auditor), Mr. Ian Parcon (PIO), Mr. Gerry Arambala (BOD), Mr. Migs Mansueto (BOD), Mr. Giovanni Udtohan (BOD), and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc (Chair). Dr. Randy Tudy and Dr. Roger Bayod will be the facilitators.
