It is at the same time a call to social justice and accountability given that the problem of violence is also rooted in uneven systems and power play in the various aspects of human society.  The critique of Juichiro Tanabe on liberal peace building is a pioneering work. If democracy must be functional and functioning, then the people themselves should feel the changes and put their leaders to task to bring actual reforms and enable people to live together in harmony, while not oblivious to the threats lurking in front of us. RADICAL POLITICS IN THE PHILIPPINES - SOCIAL ETHICS SOCIETY JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHILOSOPHY (SPECIAL ISSUE)

CALL FOR PAPERS The work of Dr. Ian Clark Parcon on agonism and its possibilities for Philippine democracy is instructive and supplements the critical assessment of Benjiemen Labastin on the subject matter. Rooted in historical data and bereft of any ideological bias, the two works represent the mature understanding of what Philippine democracy is. Wataru Kusaka's writings on the concept of moral politics is an important element in putting into context the rise of Rodrigo Duterte to the presidency. The thesis of Christopher Ryan Maboloc on the subject matter depends largely on what he claims was the failure of EDSA People Power to transform Philippine Society, an observation first advanced by the political scholar Dr. Julio Teehankee.  It's important to put things into context and not be misled by the prejudiced judgment of those who disagree with Duterte's radical leadership. The research will be for eight months and will include data gathering, focused group discussions, and ultimately, the writing, presentation, and publication of a paper. The grant will come from the University Research Council, (URC).  According to Dr. Maboloc, the research is a post-modern approach into the problem of peace. The researcher will use the lens of Iris Marion Young's Politics of Difference. It is an attempt to use conflict studies as a way to overcome the limits of the liberal concept of peace-building which, while democratic, is largely state-centric. It will also consider the efforts of lesser known scholars in the region to give new insights beyond what now seems to be the orthodox interpretation of the age-old Mi
