Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc has received a grant from the Ateneo de Davao University to fund his research project entitled "Holistic Peace and the Mindanao Problem: Tracing the Roots of a Historical Injustice through the Politics of Difference." The research will be for eight months and will include data gathering, focused group discussions, and ultimately, the writing, presentation, and publication of a paper. The grant will come from the University Research Council, (URC).
According to Dr. Maboloc, the research is a post-modern approach into the problem of peace. The researcher will use the lens of Iris Marion Young's Politics of Difference. It is an attempt to use conflict studies as a way to overcome the limits of the liberal concept of peace-building which, while democratic, is largely state-centric. It will also consider the efforts of lesser known scholars in the region to give new insights beyond what now seems to be the orthodox interpretation of the age-old Mindanao problem.
