MSU-IIT at the Frontier of Philosophy in Mindanao: The Pioneering Batch

By Menelito Mansueto (with information from MSU-IIT Department of Philosophy and Humanities Faculty)  The Department of Philosophy and Humanities of MSU-IIT is blessed with 42 graduates this year 2022, the department’s pioneering batch.  To start the new academic year this August, the department had its students’ orientation to welcome the young aspirants and discuss matters related to the face-to-face class implementation after the pandemic. Currently, 151 students, from the first to the fourth year, are enrolled in the program—Bachelor of Science in Philosophy, Major in Applied Ethics, in line with MSU-IIT’s academic and research thrust, which is geared toward technology and science.  Under Prof. Fernando V. Garingo, the department plans to offer the degree—Master of Science in Applied Ethics in the coming years. Education is the key to sustaining Peace and Progress - IEPEC 2022

Education is the key to sustaining peace and progress. This was the message of Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian in his Inspirational Address at the recently concluded International Ethics and Peace Education Conference held at Urdaneta City University. Commissioner Dr. Ronald Adamat of CHED also delivered an inspiring message in the plenary. Dr. Darry Macer, president of the American University of Sovereign Nations, gave the Keynote Address. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of AdDU and Dr. Jove Jim Aguas of UST delivered plenary lectures. Mr. Man Hee Lee of the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, and Restoration of Light (HWPL) also gave his inspirational message to the participants in the hybrid event while M/Gen. Melquiades Feliciano and Mr. John Rommel Garces of HWPL spoke in the plenary.  Atty. Amihan Alcazar, president of UCU, hosted the event that included the inauguration of the UCU Peace Park. 2nd CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Social Ethics Society will hold its 13th Annual Conference this coming October 27-28, 2022 at Holiday Ocean View Resort in Samal Island. The theme of the event is "Weaving Multidisciplinary Perspectives." The gathering will be hosted by the University of Southern Mindanao and Mindanao State University - General Santos City. Swedish philosopher Göran Collste, professor emeritus at Linköping University in Sweden, is the Keynote Speaker. Multidisciplinary research intends to address the problems faced by human society in an integrated way. Researchers employ the tools and skills to determine the common questions and enable a culture of research that is open to the spirit of collaboration with other disciplines. Ethics: A Flourishing Life by Dr. Gleemoore Makie

Ethics, A Flourishing Life, by Gleemoore Makie, PhD, provides students with the necessary steps in understanding the theories, principles, and issues to understand the role of moral reasoning in their lives. Written with great zeal, the text begins with the meaning of moral agency and proceeds with care to explain the theories and issues. Students will also be asked to give their insights on the poems with social and moral themes written by the author. Dr. Makie first taught philosophy at Saint Louis University in Baguio City. He had a 12 year teaching stint at the Philippine Military Academy. He is now a faculty member of the Urdaneta City University handling ethics and general philosophy. Dr. Makie's research interests include IP Research, Indigenous Music, and Military Ethics. Dr. Makie is a member of the Philosophical Association of Northern Luzon. 

Dr. Ryan Urbano is the 2nd Most Published member of the SES

  Dr. Ryan Urbano, who is now an Associate Professor at the Cebu Technological University, is the second Most Published member of the Social Ethics Society, based on data obtained from Google Scholar and ResearchGate. Dr. Urbano has 30 articles to his credit with 50 citations. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University topped the latest list, with 67 papers published and 172 citations. Dr. Rogelio Bayod of Cor Jesu College comes at 3rd with 29 publications and 62 citations. Dr. Jeffry Ocay, a professor at the Eastern Visayas State University, is fourth. He has a total of 20 articles and 122 citations. In fifth place is Dr. Raymundo Pavo of UP Mindanao  He has published 16 articles with 24 citations.
