CALL FOR PAPERS: 3rd Social Ethics Society Conference at NDMU

The 3rd Social Ethics Society Conference will be held this coming October 4-5, 2013 at the Notre Dame of Marbel University. The conference revolves on the theme "Peace and Development: Philosophical Reflections". Expected participants are philosophy teachers, students, researchers and members of NGOs involved in peace and development initiatives.

The paper/essay must be around 4,000 to 6,000 words. A 300 word abstract may be submitted on or before May 31, 2013. The deadline for the full-text will be on August 31, 2013. You may submit your paper to the SES President at ryanmaboloc75@yahoo.com or to Mr. Al Quillope of NDMU at earthworm_afq@yahoo.com. The papers for the conference will be selected by the BOD of the Social Ethics Society.

Thomas Pogge to mentor AdDU prof in ASAP Global Justice Fellowship at Yale

Professor Thomas Pogge of Yale University will be the mentor of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc in the ASAP Global Justice Program Fellowship at Yale University. Prof. Pogge is the author of World Poverty and Human Rights. Dr. Maboloc will write his research on structural issues in Muslim Mindanao using the perspectives of Iris Marion Young and Thomas Pogge. ASAP is an acronym for Academics Stand Against Poverty. According to its website, it utilizes "scholarship to influence policy and public attitudes to poverty. Established in 2010, (ASAP) is a non-partisan, independent global organization aiming to eradicate severe poverty worldwide." It is based in New Haven, Connecticut. It is under the Global Justice Program at Yale. Fourteen scholars around the world were chosen for the ASAP Program. Pogge is the most prominent scholar on global justice. Christopher Ryan Maboloc: An Intellectual Biography

By Menelito Mansueto (MSU-IIT) Christopher Ryan Maboloc is a Davao-based Filipino scholar known for his work in Social and Political Philosophy, Bioethics, Philippine Democracy, and the Philosophy of Technology. He is an Associate Professor at Ateneo de Davao University and a Visiting Professor at Silliman University. His body of work often engages with topics of social justice, structural inequality, and political ethics, particularly in the context of the Philippines. An Erasmus Mundus scholar, the author was trained in political party building and democratic governance at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Bonn and Berlin, Germany.
