Dr. Jeffry Ocay, Dr. Victor Aguilan and SES debate Philippine Politics in SES International Conference

The Social Ethics Society, in cooperation with Cor Jesu College, successfully concluded the Philippine Politics and Culture International Conference. Scholars debated difficult issues pertaining to Philippine politics and culture, including the role of religion in a liberal society, IP rights, deliberative democracy and political agonism, and peace building paradigms. Two Japanese scholars, Dr. Juichiro Tanabe of Waseda University in Tokyo and Ms  Asuna Yoshizawa of Kyoto University, gave talks on holistic peace. Dr. Roger Bayod, who managed the virtual event well as host, discussed IP Rights.  Dr. Jeffry Ocay and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc led the lively interactions and engagements. Meaningful exchanges during the 4th SES Philippine Politics and Culture Conference

The first day of the 4th Philippine Politics and Culture Conference was filled with colorful and meaningful interactions. Difficult issues such as the role of Religion in politics and how to handle policy and its implementation in the midst of the reality of the adversarial relationship between civil society and the political leadership took center-stage. Mr. Beljun Enaya, a faculty at the Visayas State University said that academics can talk to each other sans the vile that characterize politics in our time. DILG Provincial Director Bruce Colao said that people rely on the bureaucracy for the effective realization of the government's function in a democratic system. Meanwhile, a wonderful exchange of ideas occurred on the issue of IP rights. Japanese scholars to speak in Philippine Politics and Culture Conference

Dr. Juichiro Tanabe (Waseda and Kumamoto University) will speak in the Plenary of the International Philippine Politics and Culture Conference, slated this coming April 22 and 23, 2022. Dr. Tanabe will give a lecture on the Buddhist concept of Peace Building.  Ms. Asuna Yoshizawa (Kyoto University) has confirmed as well to be a Plenary Speaker in the virtual event. Ms. Yoshizawa has done field work in Iligan City. Cor Jesu College will host the program. Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc is the convenor of the conference.

Social Ethics Society sends off Menelito Mansueto Jr to his graduate studies at AUSN

The Social Ethics Society recently sent off Mr. Menelito Mansueto Jr. to his graduate studies at the American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN). Mansueto, who is a full-time faculty at MSU-IIT, will enrol in the doctoral program in Bioethics, Sustainability and Global Public Health. Mansueto is a member of the Board of Directors of SES and is co-editor of Philippine Democracy Online, a political blog founded by Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc. 

Social Ethics Society hosts Testimonial Dinner for Dr. Darryl Macer

The Social Ethics Society, through the good leadership of Fr. Dexter Veloso, hosted a testimonial dinner for Dr. Darryl Macer, president of the American University of Sovereign Nations, at Balai Torrentira Restaurant in Davao City on April 1, 2022. The officers of the SES thanked Dr. Macer for his contribution to the immense growth and development of Mindanao scholars in the field of Bioethics.  Dr. Macer also personally awarded the Post-Graduate Certificate in Epidemics and Ethical Global Health to Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc and Dr. Rogelio Bayod. Both completed the requirements and passed the exams administered by AUSN last year. Several members of the SES are enrolled in the graduate programs at AUSN, which is based in Arizona, USA.  Through the initiative of Dr. Bayod, SES Vice President, Dr. Macer also gave lectures on research ethics to the administration and faculty of Cor Jesu College and the University of Mindanao - Digos Campus.
