Ambong Fernandez releases new book

Understanding the Self is the most recent textbook written by Ambong Fernandez. Prof. Ambong is a faculty of the Philosophy Department of Ateneo de Davao University. He taught previously at the University of the Philippines in Mindanao.  This new material, one of his many college textbooks, brings together various thinkers and takes seriously the topics and issues that young people grapple with. The textbook is compliant with and adheres to the standard and minimum competencies required by CHED. 

[Second Call for Abstracts] 6th Politics and Culture Conference

The 6th Politics and Culture Conference, to be held on October 11-12, 2024, is an online event jointly sponsored by Waseda University, MSU-IIT, North Valley College, and the Social Ethics Society. It brings together local and international experts to talk about the recent conflicts of our time.  The topics include Peace and Conflict Studies, International Relations, War on Gaza, the Ukraine War, Peace building in the Bangsamoro, Philippine Democracy and related topics in the field of political theory, social philosophy and the ethics of war. The Plenary Speakers include Dr. Daniel Mishori (Tel Aviv University), Dr. Layne Hartsell (Chulalongkorn University), Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc (Ateneo de Davao University), Dr. Juichiro Tanabe (Waseda University) and Dr. Rec Eguia (USEP-CDM). The conference is fully online. Dr. Rogelio Bayod and Mr. Menelito Mansueto are co-chairs. There is no conference fee. North Valley College to host SES 2025 Conference

North Valley College will host the 15th Social Ethics Society Conference slated early next year, according to Dr. Roger Bayod, the Vice president of the SES and head Organizer of SES 2025. The event will be fully in-person and will be held at Mergrande Resort in Davao City. The Board of Directors of the SES will discuss the theme and other matters pertaining to the conference. Details and the Call for Papers will be released in October 2024. Prospective plenary speakers include Bro. Noelvic Deloria, president of the Holy Cross of Davao College, Dr. Daniel Mishori of Tel Aviv University, Dr. Asuna Yoshizawa of Kyoto University, and Dr. Juichiro Tanabe of Waseda University. 

AdDU and Xavier professors co-author new Philosophy textbook for SHS

Mr. Razel Abella, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Xavier University, Mr. Apolinar Henry Fernandez, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Ateneo de Davao University, and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, an Associate Professor and former Philosophy Chair in the same university, have co-authored The Quest to be Human, a new Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person for Senior High School. It took more than two years to complete the book, which is OBE compliant and strictly adopts the learning competencies required by the Department of Education. Abella, a trainer of SHS teachers, collaborated with the two seasoned authors to come up with this latest textbook, which contains all the components prescribed by Deped. "Both students and teachers will find the book useful," says Evan Larona, a SHS faculty at Ateneo de Davao University. 

AdDU professor publishes 100th paper

Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of Ateneo de Davao University has recently published his 100th paper. "Biopower, New Normal, Human Decency, and Otherness: Philosophical Reflections on the Covid-19 Pandemic," has been included as a chapter in the new book Covid-19 and Public Policy, published in the UK by Emerald Publishing House, edited by Dr. Manas Chatterji of the University of Binghamton in New York.  The paper explains the origin, nature, issues, and impact of the public health emergency, thereby tracing and analyzing the social, economic, and the political implications of the Covid-19 Pandemic through the philosophical lens of Martin Heidegger and Albert Camus.
