Remembering the Contributions of Dr. Eddie Babor

The late Dr  Eddie Babor, dean and professor at Holy Name University, research director and author of many textbooks, was one of the finest scholars to come from the Visayas region. He was twice president of the Philosophical Association of the Visayas and Mindanao (PHAVISMINDA), in whose time the regional organization of philosophy teachers can be characterized by a sense of camaraderie and a spirit of pure friendship, without sacrificing philosophical rigor. Founded at USC by its pioneering scholars, the organization has remained true to its mission to this day.

Dr. Babor was under the tutelage of the great Fr. Heinz Kulueke, in whose stead came the best scholars from USC. Dr. Babor wrote books in ethics, the philosophy of the human person, and logic, including many articles. He was a very humble man who helped the likes of textbook authors such as Professor Ambong Fernandez of Ateneo. Dr. Babor was editor of Lumina, the official journal of HNU. Dr. Babor reflected on the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, but he also developed concepts pertinent to Philippine education and society.
