The Social Ethics Society: Mindanao's Premier Philosophical Association


The Social Ethics Society focuses in giving the young and dynamic ethics & philosophy faculty in Mindanao and the rest of the country the opportunity to present their research outputs in a scholarly engagement while at the same time bringing in top and seasoned scholars, both local and international, to collaborate with its members in a communal spirit anchored on friendship, openness, and a firm commitment to social justice, human dignity, and equality.


The SES has invited as speakers during its annual conferences, including the online platform, high caliber scholars like John Weckert (Charles Sturt University), Darryl Macer (AUSN), Wataru Kusaka (Nagoya University), Daniel Mishori (Tel Aviv University), Asuna Yoshizawa (Kyoto University), Goran Collste (Linkoping University), Layne Hartsell (Chulalongkorn University), and Juichiro Tanabe (Waseda University).


The SES has also brought in local scholars to give lectures, notably Dr. Zosimo Lee (UP), Dr. Julio Teehankee (DLSU), Dr. Jeff Ocay (Silliman and EVSU), Prof. Anton Rennesland (UST), Dr. Paolo Bolaños (UST), Dr. Rec Eguia (USEP-CDM), Dr. Ferdinand Mangibin (Silliman), Dr. Orlando Ali Mandane (USC), Dr. Ruby Suazo (USC), Dr. Godiva Eviota-Rivera (MSU-Marawi), Dr. Al Quillope (NDMU), Bro. Karl Gaspar (SATMI), Dr. Ryan Urbano (CTU), the late Dr. Romy Abulad (UST), Prof. Cathy Mae Toquero (MSU GenSan) and Dr. Napoleon Mabaquiao (DLSU).


The SES, through the efforts of Fr. Dexter Veloso and the leadership of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, has developed linkages with the Eubios Ethics Institute, the American University of Sovereign Nations, and ICRES, a pioneer in education research. The organization also publishes the indexed and peer-reviewed SES Journal of Applied Philosophy. Dr. Ian Clark Parcon serves as its editor.


The BOD of the SES is presently composed of Fr. Dexter Veloso as President, Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc as Chairman, Dr. Rogelio Bayod as Vice President, Dr. Moises Torrentita Jr. as Secretary, Fr. Urbano Pardillo Jr. as Treasurer, Dr. Randy Tudy as Auditor, Dr. Ian Clark Parcon as PIO, and Prof. Gerry Arambala and Prof. Migs Mansueto as Directors. The SES was co-founded by Dr. Romulo Bautista and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc in 2010.

Professor Thomas Pogge of Yale University will be the mentor of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc in the ASAP Global Justice Program Fellowship at Yale University. Christopher Ryan Maboloc: An Intellectual Biography

By Menelito Mansueto (MSU-IIT)  Christopher Ryan Maboloc is a Davao-based Filipino scholar known for his work in Social and Political Philosophy, Bioethics, Philippine Democracy, and the Philosophy of Technology. He is an Associate Professor at Ateneo de Davao University and a Visiting Professor at Silliman University. His body of work often engages with topics of social justice, structural inequality, and political ethics, particularly in the context of the Philippines.
