Development scholars of the Social Ethics Society

Dr. Rec Eguia is one of the most outstanding development scholars in Mindanao, having studied at MIT for his post-doc. He teaches and is a former dean at the University of Southeastern Philippines - College of Development Management. He is an expert in futures thinking and has lectured on the subject at various universities.

Dr. Anesito Cutillas is an associate professor at Cebu Technological University - Argao Campus. He has served as dean of college and has done extensive research work with the renowned Dr. Jeffry Ocay, university professor at the Eastern Visayas State University. Dr. Cutillas, together with Dr. Ocay, has published important papers on Philosophy in the Margins. 

Dr. Rogelio Bayod, a professor from Cor Jesu College in Digos City, has published several dozen papers in indexed local and foreign journals, the most recent of which was a paper with Dr. John Weckert of Charles Sturt University in Australia. A well-cited scholar, Dr. Bayod serves as the Associate Editor of the SES Journal of Applied Philosophy

Dr. Randy Tudy is an accomplished scholar in the field of development studies, having published indexed works in important international journals. He previously taught at Cor Jesu College and is now a professor at the University of Southeastern Philippines. He has delivered many lectures on research and development. He is an Associate Editor of the SES Journal. 

Dr. Sheldon Agaton is a full professor at the Eastern Visayas State University. He has served as college dean at EVSU in Tacloban City and has published important papers on local tradition and the concept of Utang na Loob. His most recent publication is on the Padrino System in Philippine politics and society. He is the Editor of Aradman Journal. 

Dr. Moises Torrentira Jr. is a young scholar and development studies professor from the University of Southeastern Philippines. He is a well-cited author who has also served as an associate dean at USEP. An entrepreneur by heart who owns several businesses, he serves as the Secretary of the SES. He is also a licensed urban planner who has done several development projects. 

Dr. Sherlito Sable is a retired professor at the University of Southeastern Philippines. He has taught development administration and was an adviser to many graduate students. He has written about the ethics of globalization, analyzing its flaws and implications to human development especially in countries such as the Philippines.

  We, members of the Board of Directors of the Social Ethics Society, express our strong opposition to the proposal to remove ethics in college. Such move is bereft of merit and is ignorant as to the value and purpose of the teaching of the course, which is thoroughly rooted in the integral and critical function of higher education. Statement of the SES BOD Chair

The Social Ethics Society was founded in 2010 by the late Dr. Romulo Bautista, a professor at Ateneo de Davao University who did his doctorate on Marx at the University of Madrid in Spain, and Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc, then a young teacher at Ateneo de Davao. The first SES Conference was held at the University of Mindanao. Its original membership was only 15, consisting mainly of the masters students of the two founders. While in the peripheries of academia, the SES pursued its goals of helping teachers in Mindanao develop their craft in ways that is consistent with philosophy as an exercise of the human will and as the highest expression of the human intellect.  When its proponents presented the concept, it was suggested that the Union of Philosophical Societies and Associations in the Philippines (USAPP) will lobby for a new bill that will professionalize philosophy in the country.
