23. Prof. Rex Rola is the most prominent philosophy teacher of Ateneo de Davao University's philosophy department. He emphasizes rigor and discipline in the works of his students, both in the undergraduate and graduate levels. A living Socrates, in fact, is not an overstatement. CALL FOR PAPERS - 15th Social Ethics Society Conference

The 15th Social Ethics Society Conference will be held this coming February 6-7, 2025 at Mergrande Resort in Davao City. The event is in-person. The theme of the conference is, "History, Politics and Culture: Philosophical Perspectives on Mindanao." It will be hosted by North Valley College. To join the annual conference, send a 300-word abstract to the Scientific Committee. Please email your abstract as an attachment to this address: roger.bayod@gmail.com. 15. Prof. Al Quiloppe taught at Notre Dame of Marbel University and was the director of its Peace Institute. He was also in charge of its environmental advocacy while serving as an administrator in the school. He wrote and has delivered important papers on peace and environmental ethics. Dr. Quiloppe has degrees in philosophy and psychology. 16. Prof. Jose Ma. Tomacruz, who succumbed to Covid-19, was an imposing figure who was characteristic of a true fiscalizer in academia. He studied at San Jose Seminary, the University of Santo Tomas where he graduated magna cum laude, the University of Padova in Italy, the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, and Linköping University in Sweden. 8. Prof. Menelito Mansueto is probably one of the most courageous among the young scholars from the South. He is originally from Bohol and has taught at UST, FEU Diliman, BISU and now, at MSU-IIT. He juxtaposes philosophy with history and has taken the cudgels defending the interpretation of radical democracy in the works of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc. 9. Prof. Alvert Dalona is the former chairman of the Philosophy Department of MSU-IIT. The school is the only institution in the country that offers applied philosophy as a major. Davao City -  The Social Ethics Society (SES) would like to present the outstanding local scholars, researchers, and academics, or the philosophers from the South. This list and the others that will follow are not meant to be exhaustive. The SES simply wishes to introduce several people who are teaching or have taught philosophy in schools here in Mindanao.  1. SES journal of Applied Philosophy  Politics and Culture Special Issue Volume 2 (February 2025)  The Board of Directors of the Social Ethics Society (SES) will release a Special Issue of the SES Journal on the Proceedings of the 6th Politics and Culture Conference. The title is Politics and Culture Special Issue Volume 2. All presenters are invited to submit. Paper presenters may send their final manuscript to Dr. Roger Bayod or Prof. Migs Mansueto on or before November 30, 2024. The editors and a select group of reviewers will assess the papers before publication to conform with the standards of the SES Journal. Christopher Ryan Maboloc: An Intellectual Biography

By Menelito Mansueto (MSU-IIT)  Christopher Ryan Maboloc is a Davao-based Filipino scholar known for his work in Social and Political Philosophy, Bioethics, Philippine Democracy, and the Philosophy of Technology. He is an Associate Professor at Ateneo de Davao University and a Visiting Professor at Silliman University. His body of work often engages with topics of social justice, structural inequality, and political ethics, particularly in the context of the Philippines. An Erasmus Mundus scholar, the author was trained in political party building and democratic governance at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Bonn and Berlin, Germany.  A recipient of the Public Intellectual Prize from the Philosophical Association of the Philippines in 2020 and the founding President of the Social Ethics Society (SES), his noteworthy contribution is the use of philosophical theories to understand different socio-political issues and problems.
