Philosophers from the South (Part 4)

Prof. Rex Rola is the most prominent philosophy teacher of Ateneo de Davao University's philosophy department. He emphasizes rigor and discipline in the works of his students, both in the undergraduate and graduate levels. A living Socrates, in fact, is not an overstatement. Recently, he is involved in improving the pedagogical tools used by Deped through the trainings he conducts under the department.

Gerry Arambala, who comes originally from Cebu City, has taught at the University of San Carlos, Tabor Hill College, La Salle University in Ozamiz, and currently, at the Mindanao State University in General Santos City. He has published papers and chapters on radical politics and development theory. He wrote a thesis on Thomas Pogge under the tutelage of the late Dr. Ryan Urbano.

The late Armando Parantar was a deep thinker who reflected on life, human society and religion. He did not publish anything, but his influence was apparent in his students, who took philosophy as a serious matter. A graduate at the Saint Francis Xavier College Seminary, he taught at the University of the Immaculate Concepcion, Ateneo de Davao University, and before his untimely death, at Saint Peter's College of Toril.

Jonas Miranda wrote papers on Hannah Arendt and other related topics. The young academic also presented papers at PAP Conferences, the Phavisminda Conference, and at Social Ethics Society Conferences. He is currently writing his dissertation at the University of San Carlos. He took his masters at the Christ the King Seminary in Quezon City. He teaches at the Surigao State College.

Dr. Sherlito Sable taught ethics and philosophy at Ateneo de Davao University. He finished his undergraduate degree in philosophy at the Saint Francis Xavier College Seminary. He taught at the University of Southeastern Philippines - College of Development Management. He has a graduate degree in management from UP Mindanao. He has published a chapter on the ethics of globalization. 

Prof. Joseph Bibal is the most famous philosophy professor at Xavier University. He is one of the most active too on social media, giving his advice on love and relationships. He finished his masters at Ateneo de Manila University and is a regular presentor and participant at the Inter-Ateneo Philosophy Symposium, an annual event attended by the three Ateneo schools in Mindanao.

Dr. Jane Gallamaso finished her masters in philosophy at Ateneo de Manila University and her doctorate in sociology at Xavier University. She has written papers on ethics and environmental philosophy. She was formerly the Philosophy Department Chair of Xavier University. She also served as the President of the Philosophical Association of the Visayas and Mindanao after the term of Dr. Eddie Babor.

Professor Thomas Pogge of Yale University will be the mentor of Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc in the ASAP Global Justice Program Fellowship at Yale University.
