This year’s conference theme marks the shift in the trend of Filipino theorizing from being Western-oriented to the unique approaches of grassroots communities. “Grassroots philosophies” celebrates the unique culture and tradition of the localities but is not limited by the same. Instead, it recognizes a shared universal human experience. The unique situatedness in the locality demands an approach that is inspired by creativity, leadership, courage, and skill. Being in the grassroots is not about what is necessarily marginal. Rather, it recognizes a truth claim.
"Grassroots philosophies" also deals with the methods philosophizing that help human beings reflect and understand their political, social, cultural and religious experiences. Examples of such attempts include the novel works of Fr. Mike Moga (lived experience) , Fr. Dionisio Miranda (loob), Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ, (indigeneity), Bro. Karlito Gaspar, CssR, (Mindanawon philosophy), and Fr. Jose Conrado Estafia (empathy).
The event is inter-and-multi-disciplinary in nature. This mid-year conference is online and presentations will be delivered via ZOOM. The first Philippine Politics and Culture Conference was held at Nagoya University in Japan in 2018. It was hosted by Dr. Wataru Kusaka and co-organized by Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc and Dr. Rogelio Bayod. Please send a 300-word abstract to Prof. Migs Mansueto, the Conference Chair at his e-mail: migs_mansueto@yahoo.com. Deadline for submission of abstract is March 31, 2023.
