PRAISES FOR THE BOOK
“In a world of crises, the meaning of justice is crucial. This book is an excellent and comprehensive presentation and discussion of various theories of justice. An additional value is its perspective from the global South. The book is not limited to theories, but incorporates also real-world issues. I would highly recommend it to students in the social sciences, philosophy and ethics.”
Dr. Göran Collste, Emeritus Professor (Linkoping University, Sweden)
“Most works on justice, written in English, are from the United States of America or Western Europe. It is refreshing, and enlightening to have one from a non-Western, developing country. This should make it more relevant for students and academics in the Philippines, but it also provides a different perspective for Western students of justice.”
Dr. John Weckert, Emeritus Professor (Charles Sturt University, Australia)
“This book will be an intellectual torch to explore how we can rebuild our world based on justice, liberty, fairness, and diversity.”
Dr. Juichiro Tanabe, Professor (Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan)
“The Question of Justice in Contemporary Political Theory is Christopher Ryan Maboloc’s contribution to the discourse on justice as a scholar from the global south – Mindanao, Philippines. The manifold reflections on the essentials of John Rawls theory and the expansion of the theory through engagement with the themes on capability approach, global justice, global conflict, problems of technology, and peace and justice concerns in the southern part of the Philippines makes this a compelling reading. More significantly, the work asserts our moral responsibility which brings the element of hope amidst the conditions of despair our world is confronted with.”
Dr. Ian Clark Parcon, Associate Professor (Ateneo de Davao University)
“In the volume you have before you, Professor Christopher Ryan Maboloc addresses the global situation from the perspective of global justice and is timely as climate change, nuclear confrontations, and geo-financial instability advance. Unless the issues are addressed, I think democratically, a situation of what we call ‘convergence’ or ‘polycrisis’ will continue and increase the disintegration of societies and much more importantly, seriously damage the biosphere. I suggest we find true hope and motivation as a reorientation away from civilization or a culture of cities to bioregionalism and democratic movements that can mold the current system towards a better planetary order and conserve as much of wild nature as is possible as a responsive biorealism.
Dr. Layne Hartsell, Research Professor (Chulalongkorn University)
